About me

I have practiced in the Healing Arts for 40 years.

My career began as a Registered Nurse at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where I specialized in Med/Surgical nursing and later Psychiatric nursing when I received my Masters Degree in Nursing at the University of Maryland. My graduate degree in Nursing was a natural first step into the holistic approach and philosophy of my graduate degree in Chinese Medicine. I blend my vast nursing background into my acupuncture treatments as I treat a wide variety of physical and emotional/spiritual issues.

I have effectively treated anxiety, sleep disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, depression, skin disorders, fibromyalgia, menopausal and menstrual disorders, TMJ, infertility and back/neck/shoulder pain, just to name few.

I hold a Masters degree in Acupuncture and I am Licensed and Nationally Certified with NCCAOM. The learning process is ongoing as I delve deeper into this 5,000 year old medical art form in my own treatment room. My patients benefit from my years of academic studies, my acupuncture treatment experience, and my life experience as a wife and a mother of 2 teenagers.

Lifestyle Coaching

serenity

My treatment of my patients is not exclusively focused on acupuncture, because Chinese Medicine is about the treatment of the ‘whole’ person. This is the basis of Holistic medicine. Lifestyle coaching is also a large part of the journey back to wellness. Lifestyle evaluation incorporates exercise, hydration, rest, relaxation, work life, family and relationship life, and more. Benefits are always noticed on these multiple levels, while one’s ‘chief complaint’ is being treated. Patients often refer to the problem that brought them into Acupuncture treatment as their ‘best friend’ because of the multiple levels of improvement they experience in the healing process. The journey back to Homeostasis (or balance) is a mysterious process that is always rewarding to both my patients and me.

Nutrition is a major variable in our health and is also a major factor in the coaching and teaching I offer my patients. Even Hippocrates stated “Let food be thy Medicine”.

balanceI believe that, like a 3 legged stool, a man or woman requires basic supports to maintain homeostasis, or balance. In addition to basic supports like nutrition, oxygen, and water, as we age, we require more ‘legs to the stool’. Remember, this is Body/Mind/Spirit medicine. The legs to our ‘personal stools’ require supports in all these areas.

Together we will evaluate the supportive physical and emotional structures in your life to determine if these areas need to be addressed. I have an ongoing relationship with a pool of professionals to draw from and refer to as needed (ie: horologist, homeopathist, massage therapists, neuromuscular therapist, certified personal trainer to name a few). I am also trained to incorporate Reiki into my treatments if appropriate.

I look forward to working with you as we tease out the areas of imbalance together and I design your treatment plan tailored specifically for you.
